They Came from Mars and Landed Outside the Farndale Avenue Church Hall in Time for the Townswomen’s Guild’s Coffee Morning
by David McGillivray & Walter Zetlin Jnr
Thursday 20th - Saturday 22nd October 2011
Knebworth Village Hall at 8pm

Over the years we have performed several of these plays and the audience is guaranteed an evening of fun and frolic as they are transported back with this group of erstwhile ladies back to the 1980’s when space was open to all sorts of speculation and misunderstandings.  The Farndale Avenue ladies attempt lift-off with their Dramatic Society’s unique production of this sci-fi thrilling comedy!   But, needless to say, high tech effects, that have some reassuringly homely touches, coupled with the dramatic inability of certain members of the group, ensure that the cast remains firmly on the ground – some more than others.

As ever the resourceful Mrs Reece (played by Pauline Jordan) brilliantly circumnavigates the pitfalls as she steers the company through a somewhat busy Vicarage set, into orbit, through space to genteel tea on Mars where the nail biting action is interrupted to present the Flower Arranging Award, before culminating in tear jerking ending that will have, by now, an hysterical audience on the edge of their seats.

With Thelma (Margaret Webb) playing the Vicar’s children, Jimmy and Susan; Gordon was the Vicar but is accident prone so Petra (Liane Welch) is roped into action to play the Vicar, Felicity (Kate Smith) as Vicar’s wife and Indesit the Martian and Norah (Sue George) playing the housekeeper and Roberta the Robot, a fun evening is in place for all.

Director, Gill Hutchinson, said "the biggest challenge we're experiencing is trying to keep a straight face and not laugh our way through each evening” so we can get on with the rehearsals.  We hope the audience will enjoy seeing the play as much as we have enjoyed the rehearsals.

Tickets are all priced at £7.00, and £6.00 (concessions) and available from the Village News (Station Road Knebworth) Box Office or from Knebworth Players Box Office on 07721 086 062.
