Director

The Director has the unenviable job of "training" the actors to produce the play that he or she wants, to convince the Construction Manager that the set can be built and to tell everyone what is needed to stage the production that they have seen in their mind.

The first role is really to cast the production. Depending on the characters and the actors that are available, this can be a difficult process to undertake. However, having heard the actors read the parts, a decision is made and the cast and crew appointed.

The next job is to discuss the set with the Construction Manager. This starts to bring the production to life by having a drawing of the set that the actors and crew will be working with.

Rehearsals are obviously a big part of the Director's job. Guiding the actors through the play and highlighting areas of improvement.

Further down the line, with the actors in full flow, the decor, costumes, lighting, sound effects and props need to be finalised.

Set build weekend is an important time too - the set first needs to be constructed and often guidance is needed by the Construction Manager to ensure that the actors and crew have the space that they need. When fully completed, the stage is handed over to the decor team and the lighting is set.

Finally, its dress rehearsal time and sound effects are perfected, props are added to where needed by the props team, costumes and make up are touched up where necessary and hopefully all goes well.

All that is then left to do is to sit back and enjoy the performances of your production team!
