The Wizard of Oz by Frank Baum
Thursday 18 - Saturday 20 October 2007
Knebworth Village Hall at 7.30pm with matinee at 2.30pm on Saturday
For their October Production, Knebworth Players presented The Wizard of Oz. Closely following the story, famously portrayed in the film, this production was a delight to watch.
We joined Dorothy (charmingly played by Aimee Pickett in her first leading role) on her journey to visit the Wizard. As ever, she was accompanied by her trusty friends:- the cowardly lion (Rob Ward), The Scarecrow (Alison Levesley) and the Tin Man (Wayne Jarvis). All three gave superb performances - "better than those in the film" I heard one member of the audience remark! Her eventual meeting with the all powerful wizard (Peter Scott) turned out to be a con trick, but all was well in the end!
The power of the gentle Good Witch (Sue George) protected the travellers from the evil of the scary wicked witch (Barbara Holgate-Stuckey) and eventually Dorothy was safely home with Aunt Em (Yvonne Burgess) and Uncle Henry (Peter Scott).
The children in the cast obviously enjoyed being field mice and munchkins. It was good to see the youngsters getting involved.
The colourful sets designed by Lorraine Van Goethem and superbly lit by Graham Dormer, lovely costumes co-ordinated by Liane Welch and excellent make up by Christine Whitbread brought the whole thing to life.
Thank you Knebworth Players!
